MCOHA's mission is to identify, address, and advocate for the emerging and long-standing needs of persons who are aging with HIV.

MCOHA's vision is to improve the quality of life and overall health outcomes for persons aging and thriving with HIV.

A monthly meeting is held to exchange information and ideas on all topics related to HIV and aging. It is attended by professionals from the medical community, social services, state and local health agencies, policy organizations, community organizations, and most importantly individuals who are long time survivors living with HIV.

Our Purpose

Since the start of the HIV pandemic, major advances in science and medicine have transformed HIV into a manageable chronic disease. In the United States today, approximately 11% of persons living with HIV (PLWH) are age 65 or older, and 54% are considered older persons living with HIV (OPLWH) age 50+. Despite these major advances in HIV prevention and treatment, HIV care services have not kept pace with the increasingly complex needs common to aging with HIV. OPLWH and other survivors of complex chronic conditions share a common need for a comprehensive system of integrated health and social services to enable and support our return to the best possible health and function so that we may remain independent, engaged and productive members of our communities and thrive as we age with dignity.

Our purpose with this website is to engage, inform and empower our community and our many allies, working together toward a healthy future as we live and age with HIV.

SAGE Action Alert! Take Action!
SAGE, the advocacy group for LGBTQ+ elders, has issued a policy action alert following the administration’s order that would essentially dismantle the Administration for Community Living (ACL). ACL supports the needs of the aging, disability, and caregiver populations, and improves access to health care and long-term services.

For six decades, Older Americans Act (OAA) funding has supported a wide range of essential programs for older adults and people with disabilities, including nutrition services, transportation support, personal care, health and wellness education, resources for caregivers, and protections against exploitation. As we approach the 60th anniversary of the OAA, it’s important to recognize the critical importance of OAA funding and celebrate its impact.
